Wow. New Years Eve literally feels like forever ago now, and it was only 2 weeks ago! As always I was a total bore and decided to stay in with my close family, as we tend to have our own little NYE party, rather than go out, how did you spend yours?

I've been thinking lately, I don't actually have two separate day time and night time makeup routines or looks... how bad is that?! I feel like I would literally not mind at all if I had to go straight on a night out without re-doing my makeup, because apart from some bold lippy and a sprinkle of glitter, it's no different!

As I mentioned in my previous post, I really want to invest some time into learning some new makeup skills, I don't even attempt a smoky eye look for goodness sake! But until then, here is my NYE look...

Okay so Saturday I got a hair cut, and of course like anyone else I took a selfie to mark the occasion. Now, I'm going to put it to good use for my face of the day post. I don't really know why these posts exist "face of the day"... like what, you're going to change your entire makeup look every day? I don't this so. But as I cant think of another name for this post, i'll go with it.

As you probably spotted, Rimmel London products make up the majority of my makeup bag. In my opinion, why spend double if not triple the amount of money on a high end product, when you can get the same result for less? My makeup routine has basically stayed the same since I started properly wearing makeup at the age of 15, with the addition of a MAC lipstick or two along the way. This tends to be my day time look, so I like to keep it quick and simple, always adding a dash of lipstick to mix my look up from time to time...

REVIEW: BELISSIMO LIPS

Okay so I am definitely one of those girls who just loves glitter, in fact my wardrobe is basically monochrome mixed with a dash of glitter...so when I realised glitter lips were an actual thing I was so excited to try it!

 

Belissimo lips is a brand I was first introduced to through Topshop in Leeds, I had been shopping and came across a concession stand with a 2 for £13 offer... however I decided to give just one a try in shade Holographic fuchsia- a combination of pink and purple tones. I am dying to also try Purple and Tea Rose.

 

This product is not only gentle on your lips, but it is also designed to stay on for up to 12 hours. You are free to eat and drink, as long as you avoid hot drinks & greasy food.... I definitely put this one to the test on New Years Eve, so I would definitely advise against Pizza. Although it is super easy to remove the glitter at the end of the night, it is a bit gross... think PVA glue on your hands at primary school style.

 

Application is super easy, simply apply the water based adhesive & then using a cotton wool bud, apply the sparkle! At £13 each this is a little pricey (including P&P), however the set lasts for so long, and works so well, although I would only have bought it at the promotional price in Topshop for £7. BLOGMAS #16- BENEFIT ADVENT CALENDAR

Okay, I am on day 3 of my Benefit advert calendar- Party Poppers 12 days of Christmas, and I have already been surprised with a miniature Oh la lift, Highbeam & Total moisture face cream...

 

For  £34.50, the set is actually worth £79.17 and includes some Benefit favourites including; POREfessional, lollitint, watt's up! and BADgal. Although the calendar is supposed to play a 'bene-song' when you open it each day, mine was faulty :( however I think this is such a cute addition.

 

If you saw my post the other day you will be aware of the huge array of beauty advent calendars that are on the high street at the moment, and this one is definitely my favourite. Although the Benefit calendar is only 12 days, the gifts inside are fab!

BLOGMAS #5- REVIEW: BORN PRETTY STORE

*Ok I know its not really Christmassy themed, but last week I was kindly asked to review a product from the Born Pretty Store. I wanted to share this with you as they have a vast amount of products in their make up range including anything from eye shadow, lip gloss and lipstick, to makeup bushes and nail polish. They best thing? It is all extremely affordable!

Appearance

I chose to review one of their waterproof cosmetic lip balms- they come in a few different colours but of course I chose pink! The lip balm is quite small and thin so its perfect for popping in your handbag or makeup bag and comes in lovely bright packaging.

Functionality

 The product itself is a natural cream lipstick and leaves a beautiful smooth finish, I would say that for a tinted lip balm it really does add a lot of colour to the lips and is more of a lipstick than a balm.

Usage

As ever, a lip balm could be worn as part of a natural daytime makeup look if you go for one of the pale pink or coral shades, there is also a more vibrant pink for evening wear. I found that the balm also worked great for a base coat under a brighter pink lipstick- especially under matte.

Cost

With most lip balms costing below £5, this one will cost you a mere £2.27!

FAUXMANCE| BENEFIT ULTRA PLUSH LIP GLOSS

Benefit Bella Bamba Ultraplush lipgloss- shade 'Fauxmance'- £14.50- Boots  

I'm not usually a fan of lip gloss, as I tend to find it ends up a bit slippery or sticky... anyone else experienced the hair in lip gloss situation?

 

I got this one a few months back from Boots, it is by Benefit and comes in 6 different colours, this one in particular is 'fauxmance'; a sultry pink tone with ultra plush gloss and a subtle hint of shimmer. The tip is designed for easy application, and is super smooth without the sticky effect. It is very easy to end up applying way too much gloss so I tend to apply it with my finger, once set it gives a lipstick like appearance.

 

I tend to find with a lot of lip glosses they tend to be colourless or wipe of straight away, this one surprisingly stays put (to some extent). The sheer, bright watermelon hue gives a plumping effect and has a fresh scent which I absolutely loved! Even the tube and packaging itself is super cute...

 

The only thing I would say is that at £14.50 this is way out of my budget, considering there are so many drug store alternatives! Although I would absolutely love to try the bright shade of pink 'Lollibop'...

PINKADILLY CIRCUS

 RIMMEL LONDON 5 PAN EYESHADOW (PINKADILLY CIRCUS)- £6.99- SUPERDRUG

 

I very, very rarely actually find an eye shadow that genuinely suits me, of course I have read every magazine article, makeup tutorial video and instruction leaflet going about what colours suit what eye shape, skin tone and colour, but I am still not convinced. By rights I should be able to carry off greens and gold...even the smoky eye look, but trust me- I don't.

 

I finally found comfort wearing a Benefit 'leggy' eye shadow which I picked up in an old Benefit makeup palette I received as a Christmas present... a nude pink shimmer eye shadow which completed my every day natural look. However when the time came to replace it, of course Benefit had discontinued it! So I found an almost replica eye shadow which I found in the 'pinkadilly circus' Rimmel London palette- swatch time.

 

By day I tend to combine numbers 2 and 3 - a nude pink and taupe shade to combine and blend into the perfect shade. Using the lighter tone towards my outer and inner lids and the darker shade across my lash line for definition.

 

By night you can added in number 4, a brown/bronze shade to create the smoky eye look without the panda eyes (this always seems to be the end result for me!), number 1 as a highlighter for the inner eye, and you can use number 5 for a pop of colour... I am still yet to attempt this as I fear I may end up with the just punched in the eye look.

I have really been struggling recently to think of blog post ideas, but since I have been trying some new makeup products recently, I thought I would do a face of the day post! A lot of the make up I use is really inexpensive, as I am not a huge believer of spending a lot of money on expensive makeup which just gets used up within a few months! The only pricey products in this post come from the Benefit celebutante pallete, the benefit brow zings eyebrow pallete, and the MAC cremesheen lipstick, the rest is mostly Rimmel London. As it is spring time, I think it's time to alter my daily makeup and start using some pinker, lighter shades of lipsticks, primers, highlighters and a little bronzer! Here are the products featured in my look...

RIMMEL LONDON LASTING FINISH FOUNDATION 201, £7.99, Boots

This will always be my favourite foundation, it works just as well as a high end foundation, it stays put all day, it's heat/sweat resistant, transfer resistant and it really does what it says it will, it gives you 25 hour coverage. All of that for just £7.99! This is quite a popular foundation and I have been using it for years now!

NYC 649 PROSPECT PARK ROSE CHEEK GLOW, £2.99, Superdrug

Cheap and cheerful. I love this blusher because I found it's the perfect shade for me, it has a shimmery tint to it so it also acts as a highlighter for your cheeks!

RIMMEL LONDON STAY MATTE POWDER 003 PEACH GLOW, £3.99 Boots

Again, this Rimmel product is very popular. It is so hard to find a good powder but I always find that this one works wonderfully, it gives a light covering and sets your make up so well!

RIMMEL LONDON WONDERFULL MASCARA- £7.99- BOOTS

I never ever usually go for plastic brushes as I never find that they actually volumise my lashes, but with this brush I feel like it gives the best of both worlds, length and volume! Although I usually opt for Scandeleyes, I will definitely be buying more of this mascara! 

BENEFIT BROWZINGS, £24.50, Boots

I have only ever used one brow product, but this one has last me years! I only ever add just a little colouring to my brows so this powder and gel like duo work perfectly for adding a touch of colour and setting with the tinted gel.

LEGGY AND DANDY BRANDY BENEFIT VELVET EYEHSHADOW, (part of celebutante set)

I love to combine these colours, applying the shimmery pale 'leggy' shadow all over the eye lid and then adding a touch of 'dandy brandy' to the outer lids and blending. A very neutral but beautiful look!

BENEFIT DALLAS FACE POWDER, (part of celebutante set)

This bronzer is so amazing, benefit have so many different bronzers which are all lovely. I particularly love this one as it isn't too dark but it also adds a lovely shimmer. A great bronzer if you're just getting started with bronzing and contouring.

CREMESHEEN CREMECUP MAC LIPSTICK- £15

This has been my favourite lipstick for so long, it adds a lovely pinky colour to your lips and is so soft and nourishing. The cremesheen lipsticks are a definite favourite of mine!

SLEEK LIP CONDITIONER (POUT POLISH)- £4.49- BOOTS

I always apply this before wearing any lipstick, as it ensures your lips are conditioned and ready for you to smoothly apply your lipstick, you can also use this balm on its own as it is tinted with a pinky/nude tone.

Mini Boots Haul

Just a quick post to share with you my latest mini Boots haul! I dont know what has gotten into me recently, I usually buy all of my cosmetics and beauty products from discount retailers such as bodycare, savers or Superdrug, but lately I have literally become obsessed with collecting Boots points! I have also become absolutely obssessed with trying new products which will help to improve my skin and hair as I'm trying to take more care of myself!

Anyway as I said it's just a little haul post but here are some of the cosmetics and beauty products I bought!

LEE STAFFORD HAIR GROWTH TREATMENT-£8.49-BOOTS

Although I have no idea if this actually makes your hair grow or not, considering I have been using it every wash for 2 weeks and seen no difference, I would say that it is absolutely perfect for making your hair smell absolutely amazing even days after you washed it! It also leaves your hair feeling silky smooth and soft, definitely give this one a try!

RIMMEL LONDON MOISTURE RENEW LIPSTICK 'VINTAGE PINK'- £6.49- BOOTS

I did a review of this in a previous post if you fancy a look! This lipstick is perfect for making your lips feel soft and supple, and although I am more of a fan of lip balm, I did love using this lipstick as it adds a little colour that is different to your average pink lippy!

GARNIER MOISTURE MATTE 'SHINE BE GONE' MOISTURISER- £3.99-BOOTS

I am such a fan of this moisturiser because the only thing that I hate about moisturisers is that my skin always feels greasy afterwards and I find it difficult to apply my makeup afterwards as it goes slimy! However this one creates a matte finish and ensures you stay shine free all day which is helpful if you can suffer from oily skin at times like me.

NEUTROGENA BLACKHEAD ELIMINATING CLEANSING LOTION-£3.99- BOOTS

Although I haven't noticed any visible difference at the moment, because I have only been using it for a couple of weeks, I would say it is very good at removing any little bits of dirt from your skin or makeup residue that your makeup remover may have missed. The only thing I would say is that it is very strong so keep it away from your delicate eye area.

TED BAKER BODY SPRAY-£2.50-BOOTS

I have been using this body spray for so long as I always used to get it in gift sets for Christmas, it is the perfect handbag essential and smells absolutely beautiful!

CAREX SENSITIVE HAND GEL- £1.45- BOOTS

This is my number one hand bag essential, I can't live without it, I am such an OCD when it comes to germs and you can never be too careful when getting trains, tubes and buses so I always make sure I have some hand sanitiser on me at all times!

BENEFIT COSMETICS- ROLLER LASH MASCARA

When I heard that the new Benefit 'roller lash' mascara was making its debut in Elle magazine this month I was so so excited! I couldn't wait to go out and buy Elle to see what all the hype was about, however I must admit my first impressions were not good.

If there is one thing I hate it's plastic mascara brushes, I literally never ever buy a mascara unless it has proper bristles as otherwise I never find that they volumise my lashes, despite adding more length. But when I tried it, despite being a bit sceptical, I found that the mascara actually works fantastically. I had absolutely no issues with the brush and found that it does exactly what it says it will. My eyelashes were instantly more curly, longer and volumised! 

The 'roller lash' mascara claims to visibly lift lashes, gives long lasting curl and makes eyes look more wide open, I can honestly say it did all of that for me! I think personally I will always prefer the 'bad gal lash' mascara as it really does volumise your lashes which is my aim, but I seriously do reccomend you give this one a try!

You will never convince me to pay around £20 for a mascara unless it's for a special occasion, the amount of mascara I go through I think I'll stick to my high street alternatives. However for just £4 you can get a copy of Elle and a tester size of this wonderful mascara!

Benefit| Full Glam Ahead

When it comes to high-end cosmetics I have never really seen the point in spending a hell of a lot of money on makeup which you can most certainly find at a much cheaper price by high street makeup brands. Although I won't be splashing the cash on foundations and mascaras, I do like he occasional treat, for example MAC is my go to place to grab a new lippy (I just bought one of their Dazzleglass lipgloss which I will review soon) and when it comes to makeup brushes I would consider investing in some real techniques brushes, so when I saw this handy little kit of mini benefit favourites I just couldn't resist!

The set consists of 3 miniatures of some of the most popular benefit products, the PORE fessional, BADGAL LASH mascara and High Beam highlighter. If I am completely honest I had absolutely no idea how to use the pore fessional or High beam so I had to do a little bit of YouTube searching for some tutorials, I have however used their BADGAL lash mascara before and I can 100% say it is the best mascara I have ever used. So, at just £9.95 I thought this was an absolute bargain if you just want to have a little play around with these products and see what you think of them before splashing out on the full size versions. Here's a little more info about these products and how to use them.

HIGH BEAM

High beam is a highlighter which aims to enhance your complexion. To apply, I reccomend you use around 3 small dabs of the product spread evenly along your cheek bones, this is the area you need to highlight most, you can also apply this along the top of your nose, Cupid's bow or anywhere else you wish to highlight! Simply apply when you have applied your foundation and blend, however don't apply  on top of powder as it can get a little caked up.

THE PORE FESSIONAL

The pore fessional is a pro balm which minimises the appearance of pores. I was very sceptical about this product as I just didn't understand how it could possibly work, however there has been so so much hype about this product so I gave it a go. It seriously does not disappoint, although I think the effectiveness of the balm really does depend on the severity of your pores, it really does work! Simply pat the product into any visible pores, for example at the side of your nose/ cheeks, nose or chin and then sweep away any of the excess and blend into your skin. Not only just it make your skin feel super soft, but it smooths out your complexion and really does minimise your pores, then when you apply your foundation the application is a lot easier and looks so much better. The product has a light fragrance and is a skin tone colour which differs from High street alternatives which have a more gel like consistency.

BADGAL LASH

BADGAL lash is literally the best mascara I have ever used, despite retailing at around £17.50 it is expensive, but is perfect for keeping it for special occasions or when your eyes need more definition. It is so great for volumising and lengthening your eyelashes, whereas some others do either or, the brush is also highly effective, I much prefer bristle brushes for my eyelashes as I usually find plastic ones are absolutely useless. Highly reccomend this one, but keep an eye out for their brand new Roller Lash mascara which will be available in the March issue of Elle magazine (available next month).

Overall I have found all 3 of these products highly effective, however I am yet to decide whether to invest in the full size versions, I absolutely love these affordable miniature versions however as now I can get used to using them and it will only set you back £9.95 for all 3 of the products, a lot cheaper than the full size products which can cost anything between £17 and £28. For the miniatures bought individually the value would be £20.33 which saves you a massive 50%, definitely grab this one while you can!

#Blogmas Day 11| Glitter lips!

Holographic fuchsia- £13- Bellissimo Lips  

This is literally the most amazing makeup product I have ever seen...forget balms, lipsticks and glosses, and embrace glitter lips! Literally my lips are covered in glitter. When I first saw the 'Bellissimo lips' concession stand in Topshop a month a go I just had to have a look. Bellissimo offers the cutest packs of lip glue and glitter to create the cutest sparkly lip, despite being October at the time I knew this was a must have for the festive season!

 

They sell so many varieties of glitters, whether its crimson, pink, fuchsia, blue or purple they have such an array of colours; I was spoilt for choice, and being so indecisive I almost took them up on their offer of 3 packs for £20. I decided in the end to get the 'holographic fuchsia' glitter, which is a very bold pink but has hints of other colours too, making it the perfect colour!

 

I only actually tried this out as a tester the other day when I was bored, but honestly as soon as the glitter was on my lips I didn't want to take it off, it looks so pretty! Those of you who read my blog regularly will know how much of a sparkle lover I am, so this was perfect for me! I intend to wear it all through Christmas, especially for Christmas Day and New Year.

 

Despite being so pretty I would say there was a few issues, although it is super easy to apply with a cotton bud to avoid getting glitter all over the place, the glue used to apply dries super fast, so you have to be really quick in applying your glitter or your cotton bud starts to stick to your lips, not nice. Also although it I good that the glitter withstands food and drink meaning you don't need to re- apply, it is an absolute pain to get off , literally I had to scrub it off and then I had an awkward faint line of glitter around my lip line all day that just wouldn't budge!

 

Overall I absolutely love this product, although for what it is, you could definitely buy it for cheaper or make it yourself rather than paying £13. You can find the lip glitters HERE .

Okay I wasn't joking with my "#busstandselfie" I was genuinely sat at the bus stop with my boyfriend waiting to go into town to Nandos haha! But anyway as it was date night I thought I would make an effort as I don't really get to see him that much right now. This is my usual sort or day-to-day makeup, it's quick and simple and I am not joking I haven't changed my routine or products that I use all that much in the past 4 years, I don't care what anyone says, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

I tend to keep my makeup routine simple to save time on a morning, although I have just recently started applying my foundation with a brush... I am very proud, I didn't realise how much better it would be rather than using my finger tips! I tend to use mainly Rimmel London products, as although over time my foundation has been discontinued, then changed a little, I do think this lasting finish foundation gives great coverage and it genuinely does last all day unless you're running a marathon or something!

My mascara is also Rimmel, I tend to mix and match with the scandal'eyes range but I bought this waterproof one for going on holiday, it stayed on really well in the pool. I have combined it with the Clinique mascara as I got this one as a free gift in a magazine and found it is amazing I have never known a mascara work so well  although I just could not afford to be buying this all the time.  I do however use Benefit browzings for my brows, as the powder like product is great for defining your brows and the gel counterpart is fab for setting your brows and tidying them up! Plus, I didn't actually have to pay for this, as my friend kindly gave me hers!

The blusher I use is a steal at just £2.99 and has lasted me 5 months now, despite being nearly gone now. I am not a fan of bronzers as I am always a little bit scared of it being patchy or too dark and in the wrong places, so I tend to use a bright blusher on my cheeks instead. As for contouring, I daren't even attempt it. The stay matte power is also only £3.98 depending on where you buy it, but as a simple powder to pop in your bag it is great for buffing away any oily patches during the day.

Finally, I completed my look with my new chubby stick! I think if you're a little wary of how bold your lipstick may come out once you apply it, chubby sticks are great for adding just a little colour and some gloss at the same time, mine is No7 shade "delicate pink" which gives a nice touch to finish your make up!

Review| Garnier Moisture Match

I am usually a little shy and embarrassed whenever I do a skin care or makeup product review as I hate showing people my bare milk bottle white skin, so gross! But I really wanted to share this product with you as I think it works so well. I tend to just ignore the product testers which come in magazines but now I have a whole pile of them I want to start reviewing and this Garnier moisture match moisturizer is the first.

 

This product comes in many different forms for varying skin types, as with some moisturizers they tend to never work very well as they aren't meant just for your skin type, luckily this one happened to be created for oily skin which I am prone to at times. I wouldn't say that my whole face is oily but my nose, forehead and chin in the 'T-Zone' can become prone to shine, thus I tend to cover it with powder during the day, however this can lead to patchy skin, ew. Anyway, due to the package size I only got to use this product twice but I honestly found it really worked!

 

The moisturiser is quite thick and works well if you apply a little all over the face, paying particular attention to oily areas. The problem with moisturizers can be that they tend to in fact make your skin oiler! But with this one I found once applied it dries instantly, and then you can carry on with your makeup routine as usual without having to worry about shine during the day, it also works well for evening out your skin tone and leaves skin felling soft.

 

 I really recommend this product, but if you don't have oily skin, check out the rest of the product range to find a moisturizer tailored to your skin! :)



FOTD| Daily Routine

This is my first face of the day post, and I must admit that I am pretty nervous about revealing pictures of myself without makeup for all to see, but I guess we can't look our best all the time! This is in fact the pictures from my day at London Fashion Week, but it only occurred to me now that seen as I did an outfit of the day post for that, I might as well try FOTD too. Anyway, this look tends to be my daily make up routine, as it is quick, simple and easy to achieve in 10-15 minutes, I must confess however that although I alternate the products I use from time to time, this has actually been my makeup routine for the past few years, ah well. So once I have exfoliated and cleansed my skin, I then begin applying my makeup, personally, I am not really into using primers and toners for day to day makeup and I am also not a fan of using several different brushes for application and really like to keep it simple, only using my finger tips, powder and face brush. I start by using two foundations and using mostly the 'classic beige 201' and mixing in a tiny bit of 'natural beige 400' to darken the colour a little, without being too orange! I really like the 25 hour foundation as although in my opinion it most certainly does not stay on that long, it does remain on for most of the day, is light on the skin and effectively disguises spots and blemishes. Then I set my foundation using '002 pink blossom' powder, I also use this throughout the day to avoid shiny skin, again the product is very light to wear. I then use scandaleyes lycra flex mascara, as my eyelashes are pretty long naturally, I prefer volume enhancing mascaras, the thickness of this brush means its perfect for me. After this I apply '050 live pink' blusher, although this is quite a vibrant shade of pink, I think by applying just a little of it works very well, use with caution though, nobody wants bright pink cheeks! To finish my look I finally apply either some lip balm (nivia/ eos/ Vaseline) or lipstick, at the moment I am particularly into MAC cremesheen crème cup, a lovely light pink colour. I was soooo busy with exams before Christmas, and since Christmas I haven't really had the chance to go shopping, so today was the first time I had been in so long! I was is desperate need of some new makeup because I was literally scraping the bottles, and once I had revamped my makeup bag, I thought I would have a little look at the sales! Although some stores such as ASDA, TESCO & Savers have now removed the Rimmel London offer of "everything under £5" (the foundation I use is £7.99) I managed to find that Boots surprisingly were still using this offer! Although I usually really dislike sales shopping as I can never find anything I actually want, I have found the best sale is at Topshop, there are so many bargains in there, and it isn't all crap nobody wants! aha, I managed to pick up a jumper and a top from there, and found Dorothy Perkins had a particularly good jewellery sale, so you should definitely have a look!
